You should never have to show ID to use the internet.

Seriously. That’s fucking stupid. Imagine if you had to give ID to enter a public park - fucking nasty idea, huh? That’s the reality we’re gonna be hitting soon at this rate, all thanks to the UK and Aussieland.

On one hand, I agree with the sentiment of “protect the children”. On the other hand, it’s not about protecting children, it’s about knowing WHO is saying WHAT, so unless you are singlehandedly the most milktoast person ever, you can and will be scrutinized; especially with the UK’s no-vpn, no encryption (or at least backdoored) shit. This is why I got into alt-tech in the first place, because I saw the writing on the wall and took initative. Other people aren’t going to see how things are panning out until it’s too late, even the people I try to convince, by showing them that other people are having these real problems, even me! When I show it to people I know though, “oh, it isn’t happening to me, so I don’t care”. If you’re reading this, you know exactly who you are, and you should be fucking ashamed.

How far will this shit go? Will YouTube make me exclusively use their kids app unless I can show them I am old enough to enjoy a widdle bittuh bad words? If so, I’m going to exclusively use Peertube from now on. Will I be required to show my ID before making a basic websearch? Guess I’ll live without the knowledge gained. Will I need to prove to Discord I’m legally allowed to FUCK before letting me talk to friends? Trick question! We don’t use Discord here. Will I need to prove my age to Steam in order to keep using their services? If so, piracy ahoy.

Imagine if you could go to prison for using the internet through a VPN or just having an application like Tor or Signal installed on your system. The internet would be in fucking shambles. The idea brings me pure, unadulterated anger.
